The Director of IND visits the Northern and Central Region Delegations

Director of the National Institute of Demining, Mr. Júlio Braga, visited the IND Central Region Delegation during the period 10-13 Jan 07. The objective of the visit was to appoint and present the new IND Central Region Delegate, Mr. Félix Daúde to the employees of the delegation and the Government of the Province of Sofala.

During the visit the Director addressed journalists about the announced precautionary measures being implemented in the reconstruction of the Sena Railway Line, in which a team of deminers will work in front of the

reconstruction teams. The decision was made in response to an accident in December when a worker was injured in a mine incident.

The Director made a further visit to Nampula over the period 14-17 Jan 07. This visit included the appointment of the new Northern Region Delegate Mr. Juma of Caniras who was presented to the workers of the delegation and the Provincial Government of Nampula.

The Director also conducted meetings with:

§ the humanitarian demining operator in the Northern Region HALO Trust

§ additional meetings with the Provincial Government Nampula

§ the FADM Headquarters in Nampula and

§ the Provincial Director responsible for former combatants in Nampula.

The Ambassador for the Republic of Colombia visits IND

The Ambassador for the Republic of Colombia to Mozambique Mr. Víctor Ricardo visited IND on 25 Jan 07. The visit dealt with preparations for the Vice President of Colombia’s future visit to Mozambique and to exchange experiences among the two countries.

In addition to a meeting with the IND management team the Ambassador visited all the departments of the IND to complete his familiarization with the organisation.

At the visit's end the Ambassador stated his satisfaction with the visit; and that the aims of the information exchange had been achieved.

TPR (Tri-partite Review-2006) 30^th November 2006

The TPR-2006 took place at IND Office on 30^th November 2006. This is an usual annual review of IND’s performance being done by Government of Mozambique, UNDP and principal donors. During the review session, IND had made a power point presentation on its performance during CY-2006 and key areas of concentration for CY-2007. The participants offered their comments, suggestions and criticism on IND’s performance as well as its future vision. The outcome of the TPR will be one of the guiding principals for IND to undertake its task during CY-2007.

Mr. Christoph Hebeisen

Mr. Christoph Hebeisen of FSD (Swiss Foundation for Mine Action) visited IND office in Maputo and its Centre Regional Office in Beira from 10^th November till 17^th November 2006. His visit was in connection to his agency’s task to evaluate and undertake the ground-work for IND to receive Austrian Government’s grant for its Regional Office in Beira on a bi-lateral basis.

The Mine Action Senior Advisor Visits IND

Ms. Sara Sekkenes, the Mine Action Senior Advisor at the MAT of BCPR/UNDP/NY had visited Mozambique from 22^nd October till 27^th October 2006. She was accompanied by Ms. Melissa Sabatier, Mine Action Consultant, of the same office in NY. The objectives of her mission to Mozambique was to review, and make recommendation for improvement, of the NMAP (2007-2010), on resource mobilization, on the capacity building efforts of UNDP etc. During her visit, Ms. Sara Sekkenes met with all the major Operators, many donor officials, and the staff-persons of IND and UNDP.
